Material:
Plaster of Paris
Cupid Soap Mold
Clay Pot and Saucer [choice of size]
Rubber Spatula
Taupe and White Acrylic Paint and Glazing
Medium
E-6000 or Household Goop Glue
Exterior Polyurethane [optional]

How to:
Choose a clay saucer that fits the bottom of
your pot when placed upside down. Refer to
photo. Glue your saucer to the pot bottom as
shown and set aside to dry.

I have used an 8 inch clay pot for this project
and have attached 4 cupids. The size of your
pot will depend on how many cupids are
needed.

Begin by mixing Plaster of Paris according to
the package instructions and pour into cupid
soap mold or other mold of choice. Any mold
can be used for this project and the only
requirement of the mold is that the back has a
flat surface. Allow your mold pieces to dry.

Mix Plaster according to package instructions
and using a rubber spatula apply plaster to the
entire inside and outside of pot. Only a thin
layer is necessary and full coverage of the clay
pot is not required. Refer to photos.

You will need to work quickly as plaster will dry
very quickly.

Once the entire inside and outside of the clay
pot is covered with plaster, you will need to
attach your cupid pieces. Decide where you
would like these placed [I used 4 cupids for this
8 inch pot].

Apply plaster to the flat back of your cupid and
press firmly in place on the clay pot. Using your
fingers, work plaster into the cracks between
the pot and your cupid, filling all crevices
around the cupid back and pot. Again, you will
need to work quickly as the plaster will dry
quickly.

Repeat to attach all cupids. There isn't any
particular pattern of applying the plaster, only a
very rough finish is desired. Once all cupids are
attached, set aside to dry completely.

Paint entire pot white [inside and outside].
Using a sponge or paint brush apply a light
taupe coloured acrylic paint mixed one part
paint to one part glazing medium to the entire
pot, working the paint into all the crevices.

Set aside to dry completely. Allow at least 2
days drying time before continuing to the next
step.

Once your pot is completely dry, apply 2 or
more coats of exterior polyurethane. This is
necessary if you plan to use your planter to
hold a soil plant. I recommend that you do not
plant directly into the pot, but insert a liner to
catch any water overflow. If using you planter
for artificial plants, it is not necessary to protect
your planter with polyurethane. The glazing
medium should be enough protection for the
surface.

The 2 planters shown here are of different
sizes. One uses a darker shade of taupe paint.
The larger planter is an 10 inch pot using 5
cupids and the smaller is a 8 inch pot using 4
cupids.
