How to:
Paint your canvas burnt umber and allow the paint to dry. Pour a small amount of yellow ochre paint and a small
amount of thickener onto your paint palette. Do not mix the paint and thickener together. Dip your brush in the yellow
ochre paint and then in the thickener. Blend the two together using just a couple of strokes of the brush.

With a pouncing motion, apply the mixture on top your painted canvas. Continue adding paint and thickener to your
brush until you have covered the entire canvas. Using the yellow paint and the thickener on top of the burnt umber
paint will create various different shades of green, brown and yellow. Once you are satisfied with the painted results,
you are ready to add your print.

Using a craft or utility knife, cut out your print, keeping very close to the design and leaving no detection of an outside
or inside border of the print. Be sure your canvas is completely dry before applying your print. Apply an even coat of
craft glue to the back of your print and place glued side of the print on your canvas. With your fingers, gently press the
print in place and remove any air bubbles by pressing from the centre, outward, until the print is secure and no
wrinkles or bubbles remain.

With a paint brush, apply a coat of diluted craft glue (1 part water to 1 part craft glue) to the entire canvas, covering
your print and the painted area. Don't worry if your canvas begins to appear a little milky in colour, as this will
disappear as the glue dries.

Allow the glue to dry completely and then apply a thin even coat of Fine Crackle Finish, step 1.The thicker you apply
this medium, the larger your cracks will be. Allow this medium to dry for about 20-30 minutes (should be dry when
touched lightly).

Apply Fine Crackle Finish, step 2 and this to dry overnight. As before, if your canvas appears a little milky, don't worry,
it will disappear a the medium dries. As step 2 dries, the crack will begin to appear. It's a good idea to allow the
medium to dry for 24 hours, but if you are in a big hurry, overnight should do.

Once the crackle medium is dry, mix together, 1 part water to 3 parts burnt umber paint and mix well. With a paint
brush, your fingers or a soft cloth, apply this mixture over the entire canvas. Be sure to fill all of the cracks with this
mixture. Before the paint dries completely, wipe away the excess with a soft cloth. If the paint has dried a little too
much, you can use a damp cloth to remove a little, but be careful not to remove too much paint.

Allow this paint to dry and then apply a final coat of satin varnish. Apply the varnish sparingly. Allow this to dry and
repeat with another coat of varnish. If the paper of your print is very heavy, you may require a few more coats of
varnish to eliminate any raised edges around the print area. Apply as many coats of varnish as necessary, allowing
each coat of varnish to dry, before applying the next.
